I’ve been getting about a bit these days

Indulging my passion for History by volunteering at the Ashmolean and the Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock.

It all started at the Ashmolean’s Arty Party family fun day ;)

I helped to man the table in the Asian art area taking the children’s inspired drawings and making them into pendants using coloured card string and sticky back plastic ;)

Was brilliant fun with some lovely people and was good to learn that I can cope with loads of children

Then my first day volunteering at the Oxford Museum had me getting the lay of the galleries, tidying up and being surrounded by children in their amazing Dinosaur room.

Then in the afternoon Claire Cadwaladr and other volunteers and I got a guided tour of the Museum Warehouse over at Standlake. I was a very very happy bunny ;) . I’m back for more this week, helping out at Reception and in their lovely cafe.

On Friday night was another Ashmolean Live event, this one about Music:

“Working in partnership with the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Music the evening will explore the relationship between music and technology over the last century through free workshops, demonstrations, and performances.”

We lurked about the Museum handing out programs, floor plans and helped the visiting public find their way and enjoy the event.  The Theremin artist, Lydia Kavina overlooking the Atrium was magical. You might remember it’s sound from the theme of Midsomer Murders. Also captivating was the fascinating science lab Ethometric Museum created in The European Art Gallery by Ray Lee.

The Live events are a wonderful and free way to wander around the museum til late after work, stumbling upon the unexpected or guided by the program. As volunteers we got to look around and take part in the event ;)

I dont wear dresses; I haven’t the figure, but this one is comfy and classy. Great for curling up on the sofa in as i’m doing now or travelling. Comfy rolled edges. Soft stretchy thick cotton. Easy washing instructions 30deg 100% cotton

Its a good length for me (I’m nearly 5’6) despite having many curves to skip over ;) . I don’t think I’ll need the Spandex but might need to hold my tummy in. Or wear a corset over it.

Being sleeveless I’d wear a thin torn collar tshirt underneath to dress it down or a jacket/wrap to cover my arms.

Yes it has 3 pockets. One at the waist one on the left vertically at thigh height and one at the back. Strange place but its reachable.

Enough space for lipstick phone, tickets purse maybe ;) .
Pockets are always useful on a dress. They are relatively well disguised on seams but will see how bulgy they are when filled.

Could do with the neckline being a little lower. Let me fill my pockets. Umm that’s better. Nope not too bulgy, the pockets that is.

Things I’m not sure about: the triple scrolled arm edges is a bit Star Trek and  the strange seam at the waist/hip but for its comfort factor I don’t care so much.

Overall initially very pleased. I could wear this and will. Odd thread here and there but all secure.

I think I’m going to test it out on Adam Rayner tomorrow.

My friend John Ward of Oxfordshire Churches met me in Abingdon and gave me some very helpful guidance and setup my Lumix G for me ;)
I’d gone to my TZ10/20 as I wasn’t impressed with what the G could do. (although I blatantly didn’t know how to use it properly). Let me know what you think. I think they are better. Thanks John

My love life is boring me to tears…

Actually its not am currently doing ok. Sorry. Just I seem to live my life in lyrics ;) . Listening to the rainfall is the like the sweetest music in the world.  The gift of life. Without which the world would be a hot barren desert.  There’s a reason plants can’t get enough of it.  How much healing and goodness is hidden in the depths of a rainforest?

Rain is cathartic. Alot of my troubled youth at boarding school was spent hiding outside singing in the rain. The pelting of it on my skin a pleasure/pain crucible that cleansed me of wrong.  When I was dragged back inside with a strict telling off I would hide out in the shower ;)

Rain is not given enough credit.  We have enough of it here in the UK but some people will never get used to it. Never enjoy it.  Never run naked dancing in the rain… feeling its kiss upon your skin.

I know I know that’s totally stupid and irresponsible and I would catch a chill… but would I?

Isn’t that just another old wives tale?  I can see the problem with staying in wet clothes and not being able to get dry.  This is the problem most people have with it.  For once why don’t you just tip your face up to it and feel it. Stop and enjoy it for a few minutes before dashing back for cover.  It’s one of the secret pleasures of life.  Stop for a moment and truly live.  Let your skin soak it in and let it wash you clean.  Breathe in the fresh damp smells about you.

Go on. I dare ya.

There’s that and umbrellas are the tools of the devil. being a clumsy person I’d be taking people’s eyes out with it. They block the view of others at events. If you really want to stay dry get one of those pac’a'mac things and have it with you at all times.

In the rain the pavement shines like silver, all the lights are misty in the river, in the darkness, the trees are full of starlight. (Les Mes)
