Just checking out SugarSync. An alternative to DropBox

Thanks @Documentally for recommending it (I trust him).

Worth noting it doesn’t have DropBox’s history/recovery system
Here is a good review from Rafe Needleman …

Check it out via my Referral and get an extra 500mb on top of the free 5g
Just skip the bit that asks you to let it harvest your address book for potential clients. That always pisses me off. Um hello Data Protection.
Apart from that huge Faux Pas It’s sweet! Got some cracking free music samples.

IF you want to give it ago (and gain the extra space for both of us) … SugarSync

Thanks x

I was watching My Week With Marilyn yesterday in the coach down to London yesterday. She looks good on the New iPad doesn’t she? If you haven’t seen this I really recommend it. Eddie is brilliant and Michelle is practically channelling Marilyn. Kenneth loses Olivier a bit. I wasn’t very impressed with Vivian but Dame Judy is marvellous. Dominic’s Milton is slimy enough. Dougray’s Miller was well done. It’s a sweet, charming movie but has very dark undercurrents as poor Marilyn is controlled and confused by those she is supposed to trust?
Her time with Colin is a breath of fresh air.

Random aside what is it with media these days using my family names?!?!
My father wouldn’t mind though I think he’d have loved this, his claim to movie fame was being asked to play Tarzan. Being 6ft 5 and dashingly handsome he’d have given Weissmuller some serious competition :)
When is Revenge back on? I approve of that version of me :)

Disappointed if this is true. If so  will no longer be using Gowalla. Facebook getting hold of peoples location since their own service has failed miserably for me is frightening

The rumor mill is churning

We broke the story last month that something was amiss at Gowalla, that staff was disappearing and their resumes were showing up all over Austin where Gowalla and AGBeat are both headquartered. Now, there are rumors flying that Facebook has acquired Gowalla, but no terms have been released, and CNN cites “a source close to Gowalla” as their informant, but Facebook has not responded to our request for comment and Gowalla has told all news outsources that they “don’t comment on rumor and speculation.”

If the rumors are true, after only two years since it’s launch, Gowalla’s employees will move to Facebook’s headquarters in Palo Alto and focus on the Facebook Timeline feature. After struggling to nail their identity in the location-based services arms race, they departed from the Foursquare model some time back and rebranded as a travel guide, having to pivot in an effort to stay afloat and keep their investors that funneled $10.4 million into the promising startup happy.

Carrier IQ, a diagnostic tool installed in millions of smartphones all over the world, is gathering a lot of info about your activity – possibly even recording keystrokes, content of SMS messages and more – and sending it to a third party.

It’s present on nearly all Android devices, but not Galaxy Nexus, Google Nexus One, Nexus S, or the Motorola Xoom. It’s also present on iOS devices, but it seems to be active only when the device is in diagnostic mode.

Colossus Rebuild at Bletchley Park from Richard Elen on Vimeo.

It is with great sadness that The National Museum of Computing must report the death of Tony Sale, its co-founding trustee and the visionary who led the team that rebuilt Colossus, the world’s first modern computer.

Tony Sale was born in 1931 and as a teenager was educated at Dulwich College in London. From an early age he showed a remarkable aptitude for engineering and electronics and produced his first robot, George I, from Meccano.

Finances prevented Sale from going to University, so he entered the Royal Air Force instead. He quickly achieved the rank of Flying Officer and at the tender age of  20 was lecturing on radar. He went on to join Marconi’s Research Laboratories in 1952 and five years later joined MI5 where he became Principal Scientific Officer. In the 1960s, 70s and 80s, his fascination with electronics and computers grew and he established several innovative software companies.
